Certificate of Insurance – (COI)

Certificate of insurance is a document generally issued by an insurance agency that states specific policy information including but not limited to: types of coverage, limits of coverage, insurance carrier, policy effective and expiration date, insured name and address and certificate holder name and address. Certificate of insurance is not an insurance policy, but rather a form verifying the existence of insurance policy. The form is generally generated for the certificate holder as evidence of insurance. An example for certificate of insurance requirement would be; landlord requiring a tenant to provide proof of insurance for the leased premises. The certificate of insurance will satisfy this requirement. Multiple policies information may be stated in one certificate for an insured.
